What spectacular weather we had down there on Monday! Cool but sunny, with a gentle breeze. Awesome! Just can't decide whether this pic's good enough to spend $20 on! Still - an awesome day. Time to start thinking about some new tyres now: the front OEM Bridgstone is nearly cactus.

Great shot man, just a tip if you are getting the aftermarket 016..(assuming you have the factory 016) you will get about two -three trackdays from the front tyre... mine are wearing super fast.. after one track day.. amazing grip tho, guess thats the important thing, yes Jake next time i will go back to Michies

Just about to head off with 2 other guys for 4 days through the hills all the way the Thredbo (homage to BB maybe!!).
Deano fixed me up with a new set of Bridgestone 003 RS which I have put on especially for the trip. Jas (Dynoverks) was a big rap for them when I was chatting to him whilst fitting so I let you know how they go. Could be a good alternative to the 016.

 | | Nice one! What did you think of the school? |
Yeah, I enjoyed it. Did L2 this time and will probably do L3. Another mate did L4 and said he got more out of L3. Didn't quite feel like he wasted his money, but was a bit disappointed in the so called "customised program". Still, any day at Phillip Island is better than being at work!

To be honest, I was considering dumping the Bridgies altogether and going either Michelin or Dunlop. I've never seen a front tyre wear out so quick. After only about 3500 street riding it was probably 1/2 to 3/4 gone. After Monday, it's really looking rough! Strangely, the rear is in much better shape. Maybe I'm just too ham fisted with the brakes! Having said that - I hardly used them on Monday. Well, not particularly heavily anyway. Madaz has a deal where you get a free track day with a pair of Qualifiers... anyone used them?

Both times I have dumped it on the track was on Michelin's Power race front and both times they let go without any prior feedback which is a common critisim of them. However by all accounts the Power One is great. That is low mileage for a front tyre. Assuming tyre pressures and your suspension is okay that is unusual. Given that the back has worn at a slower rate makes me think that there is something amiss. You should be getting one front to 2 rears at least, or something like that.

I started with the handbook recommendation of 36F 42R but dropped it a few weeks ago after discussion in another topic. For the last few fangs in the hills I tried 32F 36R, while at Phillip Island we used 30F 30R. I guess it's likely that I did a fair bit of damage using 36F 42R for the first few thousand kms? Given I use the VFR for commuting and passenger carrying, the Gixxer is ONLY used for fanging.

Update on the BT003 RS. Did 1400 km in the 4 day trip. Tyres were great no complaints very good grip. Was running them at 32 cold and they seemed to wear and grip pretty well. Heading off to the Island on Mon 4th for the first time in ages so I will see how they go on the track.
