My first ride on my k1200s |
|
As you all know I bought a BMW K1200s recently after trying everything on the market and just about sending Jake mad with endless discussion on what to get. I have a Ducati ST4 but decided it was time for a change. As you may have gathered from another post on this forum the weather in Sydney has been mad and certainly not good for riding so, the damn BMW has been sitting in the garage for 3 weeks waiting for the torrential rain and gale force winds to slow down. Finally on Weds I was able to get out. Did a ride over to Padstow to visit Carlisle Tyres and Accessories for some help with my Bagster Tankcover that doesn't fit the way it should. As an aside these are good guys to know as amongst other things they import Nolan helmets and are more than happy to help with after sales service. After the first real ride I am very happy , early observations are:
- very smooth, lots of torque and plenty of power
- the electronic adjustable suspension is a nice touch especially with the terrible roads we have here
- I fitted a Remus Revolution muffler to it, couldnt afford an Akra, and it makes a lovely sound
- very stable and holds its line well but will have to give that a more exacting test in the twisties - this weekend, weather permitting...
- very comfortable riding position and a good seat
Some negatives maybe..
- it feels a bit heavy(cause it is) and doesnt turn in as quick as the Ducati - this maybe to do with the Duolever suspension its fitted with but early thoughts are that I feel a bit disconnected from the road. That said it went where I pointed it and did so very quickly when I wound it on...
- the indicator cancel switch is on the RHS as is the case for all BMWs - what are they thinking
- the servo assisted brakes are unnecessary and a little sensitive - they got rid of them on the 07 model
I copy off Jake's instructions and get some pics up so you can see it in all its glory... It really is a German statement.. And of course some of the Ducati before I sell it.

Where's this place in Padstow? I'm in Panania and haven't heard of it.

G'day Phil
Mate my brother bought the K1200s the same time as yourself, have you had any problems with your bike in anyway??
as my brother hasn't had any & he has fitted the Staintune pipe & K&N filters,
he has found the para lever to be working to his liking as he has riddin my R1 & finds the Beemer set up more precise,
with the issue of weight h has th same thoughts that you do,
mate i hope you are enjoying the bike
